CHS indoor track and field Carson athletes compete at California meet By Dave Price A quartet of Carson High athletes returned home from Fresno, Calif., with good results from Run For The Dream indoor track and field invitational on Saturday.

Blake McCoy and Nick Bukamy placed sixth and eighth respectively in the boys weight throw, Richard Shroy placed 10th overall in the boys mile run and Jennifer Van Sickle finished 11th in the girls weight throw during competition held at the Save Mart Center.

The Western Nevada College baseball team's scheduled games withArizona's Pima Community College were completely washed out by rainover this past weekend. Rain on Saturday and Sunday in Las Vegas forced the cancellation ofthe final two games of the series. WNC (4-2) will next play when itreturns to Las Vegas as it will begin a four-game series with ArizonaWestern Community College at 4 p.m. Friday at UNLV.

Carson High graduate Christy Works had another outstanding effortfor the University of Nevada women's track team over this past weekendat the United Heritage Invitational hosted by Boise State in Nampa,Idaho.

Works, a sophomore, helped Nevada to a first place finish in the4x400 relay as the Wolf Pack finished in 3 minutes, 56.12 seconds.Works also took second in the 800 meters in 2;15.31.

In addition, another CHS graduate, Gloria Sosa, was fourth in the3,000, finishing in 10:59.56.

It's been the M.O. for the Western Nevada College baseball team ever since the program began. Throw strikes, catch the ball and come through with the clutch hit.

WNC used that formula behind the pitching of Jake Waardenburg, Tim Peterson, Kramer Champlin and Jeff Barto to sweep a doubleheader against Arizona's Pima Community College on Friday in Las Vegas, winning the opener 5-3 and the nightcap 5-2.
