CROWLEY LAKE, CALIF: Closed.
DAVIS LAKE, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) reported:
- Fishing is the same as last week, but the county is trying to plow out some more parking at the south end of the dam to shorten the walk to the ice. Anglers are still concentrating their efforts at the dam or on the backside of the island with nightcrawlers for fish running 12 inches to 2 pounds.
EAGLE LAKE, CALIF: Closed.
FEATHER RIVER, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) reported:

JAKE'S / BOISE RESERVOIR, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife reported:
- There is about 10 inches of safe ice and fishing has been fair to good.
- Put your bait just above the weeds for the best chance at some trout.
- While there are auger holes and it is apparent that this lake is getting fished, NDOW hasn’t received any information from anglers who have fished here and there haven’t been any angler questionnaires filled out by these anglers to provide information to pass on.

MARLETTE LAKE, NEV: Closed.
LAKE MEAD, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife reported:
- Bad weather kept anglers away from the reservoir much of last week.
- A few anglers reported catching trout immediately after the plant at Boulder Harbor. Those anglers who did catch striped bass had to work for them.
- One lucky angler reported catching a nine-pound striper while trolling near Boulder Beach. Fishing should improve over the weekend.
LAKE MOHAVE, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife reported:

- Bass and Coho action is still very good.
- Feather River Outfitters reported that an angler was spooled by a big largemouth that took a hooked Coho while it was being reeled in near the Spillway ramp.
- Some 8 to 10-pound salmon have been caught by bass anglers recently.
OWENS RIVER, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) reported:

- Same old story. Fishing here is slow and fish are hard to come by.
- Nymph fishing is the way to go.
- Caddis Larva, Midge Pupa and small Hares Ears.?Lower Owens River: ?Water flow is 112 CFS.
- Flow has been steady and fishing remains good. Some pretty good dry fly action during a mid-day May Fly hatch recently.
- Best results during the mid day hours (11:00 am - 1:00 pm).? ?PYRAMID LAKE, NEV:
- Valerie at Crosby’s Lodge (775-476-0400) reported:
- We had a very good week, last week:
- The biggest was an 11-pound, 12-ounce (30.5 inches) Cutthroat by Jeff Morris of Reno with a black fly at “The North Nets.”
- We also had an 11-pounder, four 10-pounders, one 9-pounder, three 8-pounders and two seven-pounders.
- Most of those big fish were caught with flies or Woolly Buggers.
PYRAMID LAKE, NEV:
George and Carla Molino of the Pyramid Lake Store (775-476-0555) reported:
- Fishing has been pretty good. The boats are doing well. The fly fishing is picking up. The shore fishermen are having to work to catch fish.
- The water is 41 degrees.
- Nothing super big is being caught and lots of catching and releasing.
PYRAMID LAKE, NEV:
The Reno Fly Shop (775-825-FISH) http://www.renoflyshop.com
- Cold air temperatures have slowed the fishing in most shallow water areas. Try deeper beaches such as Shot Dog, Spider, Wino, and Blockhouse. Buggers and Beetles on a fast sinking line are your best bet.
RUBY LAKE NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife reported:
- Very little change here though the ice is a couple of inches thicker at the main boat ramp and is now about 12 inches of good ice. But there aren’t any auger holes, so obviously no one is fishing on the ice here.
- The past few storms have dumped over a foot of snow in the valley, but with the warm temperatures, the snow has packed down to about three to four inches. The collection ditch is open as are a few springheads.
- Fish the collection ditch with streamers, Woolly Buggers or Nymphs under a strike indicator. As we get closer to the end of February, anglers should consider using an egg pattern as the rainbows spawn in the spring.
UPPER SACRAMENTO RIVER, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) reported:
- River conditions remained good with most of the rain falling to the south. Flows remained low and trout to almost four pounds were being caught on egg flies, small Baetis Mayflies, Midges and Stonefly Nymphs.
SAN JOAQUIN AND RED’S MEADOWS, CALIF: Road closed.
SHASTA LAKE, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) reported:
- The water is rising, and with it changing conditions.
- For bass, start with reaction baits such as swim, rip and spinner baits. As the day progresses, go to the bottom in 25 to 45 feet with Senkos. Brass-n-Glass or something like it with added vibration also helps.
- For trout, stick to mid-lake and away from incoming waters. Trout are in the top 20 feet, so until the lake clears, use lures with some vibration but troll slowly. Gold/red Speedy Shiners or Chartreuse, hot orange or hot red colors with gold are good choices for starters.
SOUTH FORK RESERVOIR, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife reported:
- Ice is averaging around 10-11 inches plus, and the fish are averaging 15 to 19 inches with the occasional 22 to 24 inch fish being caught.
- Last weekend, fishing was slow with few anglers going home with fish. However, many of those fish being caught were three pounds or larger and the meat is red with thick fillets.
- Anglers continue to catch fish in 4 to 8 feet of water at the south end as well as along Jet Ski Beach, the main state park boat ramp and up by the dam in the northeast corner.
- Worms with a garlic or cheese marshmallow as well as corn or white marshmallows with a worm are working.
- The latest trick seems to be using “Smelly Jelly” on brightly colored jigs.
LAKE TAHOE:
Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbons Charters (530-544-6552) reported:
- The fishing report is the same as last week:
North Shore:
- Fishing is good with some limits of Mackinaw Trout.
- The Macks are running 2-6 pounds, with the largest, 7-13 pounds.
- We have been trolling at Cal Neva and Dollar Points, 80-200 feet deep, with Dodgers and minnows or Trophy Stick lures.
West Shore:
- The Eagle Point area is producing some Brown Trout, up to 4 pounds, for topliners in boats.
East Shore:
- Shore fishing at Cave Rock Landing has been slow, except for an occasional planter Rainbow or an occasional, small Mackinaw.
- Boaters need to go deeper for limits of Mackinaw at Cave Rock Shelf.
- Topliners are catching some small Rainbows and an occasional Brown.
TOPAZ LAKE:
Chuck and Linda Fields of the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550) reported:
- Our boat launch is open as is the county park boat ramp.
- Not a lot of people out fishing right now due to the weather.
- The few boats that are out are catching fish, but not a lot and nothing big.
TRUCKEE RIVER, NEV:
The Reno Fly Shop (775-825-FISH) www.renoflyshop.com) reported:
- The river is flowing at 36 CFS through the town of Truckee, 241 CFS at Farad and 219 CFS through Reno.
- Fishing best from the inflow of the Little Truckee down through Reno.
- Although the water temps are down and it is still winter fishing conditions, the fishing has been great on the river.
- There have been many nice fish caught on the fly.
- The most productive method has been Nymph fishing under an indicator, try: Golden Stones, small Pheasant Tails, Copper Johns, and Baetis.
- Fish have been caught on streamers as well; try swinging a bandit leech, Stanley streamer or McCune’s Sculpins through slow deep water.
- With the right conditions there have been a few blue winged olives hatching and you can find the occasional rising fish, try: Burks Silhouette Dun and dry merger BWO’s. Good Luck!

The Reno Fly Shop (775-825-FISH) www.renoflyshop.com reported:
East Walker River:
- Flows are at 23 CFS.
- Be prepared for ice and cold temps. Flows are very low.
- Try Nymphing with: Golden Stones, Baetis, Midge Pupa and a variety of other small patterns. Fish are concentrated in the deep pools.
WALKER RIVERS, CALIF:
West Walker River: Closed.
East Walker River: Closed except from Bridgeport Dam downstream to the Nevada state line and that section has special fishing restrictions.
WALKER RIVERS, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) reported:
- East Walker River: ?Water flow is 23 CFS.
- No change here. Midge Pupa and small Pheasant Tails have been productive.
WALKER RIVERS, CALIF:
Jim Reid of Ken’s Sporting Goods Store in Bridgeport (760- 932-7707):
East Walker River:
- The East is running at 26 CFS.
- We've been starting to get a few reports from the East Walker, some have been slow but some have been pretty good.
- It seems like the days when it's really cold the fishing is a pretty tough, but ?when it's either snowing a little bit, or the air temps get up into the 40's the ?fishing is really good.
- Mostly small (size 18 to 22) Midge patterns have been doing the best, haven't heard much about dries or streamers lately, probably needs to ?warm up a bit more for that.
- Keep you eye on the weather, when there's a window of nice sunny days, or even some small light snow storms, that's the time!
- Sceirine Ranch: ?Also haven't had any activity on the ranch lately, typically the water is a bit warmer down there this time of year so it'll be the same as the California side only perhaps a little larger window in the afternoon.
Hunewill Pond:
- The pond is frozen now, probably until sometime in March. ?I'll start checking in early March and let you know when it thaws!
WILDHORSE RESERVOIR, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife reported:
- Not a lot of change other than the new snow that is now covering the ice. Getting around on an ATV may be difficult as there are pockets of slush under the snow. But travel on a snowmobile should be fine. It does make walking a bit difficult, but if you stay where people have gone before, the snow is getting packed down and walking shouldn’t be too bad.
- Trout fishing has slowed down, but one angler had four trout on the line Monday, but only managed to land one due to light line since they were fishing for perch. This was southeast of the island just off of the state park boat ramp. The one that was landed was 21 inches and over three pounds. Other anglers are reporting good luck for trout in the Hendricks arm in shallower water, looking for trout in 6 to 12 feet of water.
- The trout are still nice sized, averaging 16 to 17 inches with an occasional 20-inch fish.
- Perch fishing is still about the same, just fair, with most anglers reporting less than 10 perch per day. One party of three landed 15 perch, with most coming in a half our stretch just after noon. The perch were 11 to 12 inches and produced very nice fillets. Those anglers having the best luck are finding water that is 20 feet or deeper and fishing right off of the bottom.
- Jigs tipped with mealworms or wax worms seem to be the best choice, though nightcrawlers or worms also work. Make sure to fish them right on the bottom. The best color seems to be pink or a bright red.
WILSON RESERVOIR, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife reported:
- No recent report but as of about two weeks ago there were 8 to 10 inches of ice with a few inches of snow on top and the road was 4-WD only. This lake often fishes similar to South Fork, with fish coming in a bit smaller.
