WNC Notebook: Ray signs with Twins; Pena shines It didn't take that long at all for the Minnesota Twins to sign former Western Nevada College baseball star Lance Ray.

Ray, an outfielder-first baseman, and the Twins have reached an agreement after the Twins made Ray their eighth round choice in this month's Major League draft.

Ray was coming off an outstanding junior season for Kentucky and began play this week in the nation's most prestigious summer amateur league, the Cape Cod League, with the Y-D Red Sox. As an eight round pick, would have commanded a signing bonus of at least six figures.

Ray will report to the Twins Short Season A team, the Elizbethton Twins in the Appalachian League. Opening day is on Tuesday. More details on Ray's signing will be provided on Carsonsports.com as they become available.

RENO – The game didn't go as planned, but for eight Carson High players and the CHS coaching staff, participating in the Sertoma All-Star Football Game was still definitely worth it.

The game featured Northern Nevada's top senior players from the 2009 season. CHS head coach Blair Roman was the head coach for the Blue, which featured his eight CHS players, taking on the Silver.

The Blue could never find an offensive flow and the Silver went on to win 21-0 on Friday at Mackay Stadium.

All eight CHS players started in the game: Blake Plattsmier at quarterback; Mark Sinnott at running back; Will Flores and Trevor Goodale on the offensive line; Luke Carter at middle linebacker; Justin Barlow and Ryan Hoskins on the defensive line; and Josh Peacock at cornerback. Read more...
