Jesse Rasner is rolling right along with his pitching arm for the Baltimore Orioles organization.
Rasner, who played youth baseball in Carson City and wrapped up his career at the University of Nevada this past spring, has been strong in three stops since signing with the Orioles on July 1. He is currently 2-0 with a 0.00 earned run average for the Class A Aberdeen (Maryland) IronBirds of the short-season New York-Penn League. Overall for the summer, Rasner is 3-0 with a 2.79 ERA for Aberdeen as well as the Class A Delmarva Shorebirds of the South Atlantic League and the Orioles' Gulf Coast League rookie club.

There's an ample supply of local flavor, including three Carson High graduates, on the University of Nevada women's cross country team roster coming into the start of its 2010 season.
Junior Christy Works and redshirt sophomore Gloria Sosa are part of a deep group of returning veterans while Amber Karnofel joins the program as a walk-on freshman. Karnofel ran for Carson's 2009 state championship cross country team. Works and Sosa both ran for Carson's 2007 state championship team.

While its final record may have gone down as a disappointment in 2009, the Carson High volleyball team is now fully ready to take the lessons learned from those losses and apply them toward a big comeback this fall.
And with the return of eight veterans who had experience as starters at one time or another last year, the Senators are armed for what they hope will be a run that extends into the Northern 4A postseason.

You've heard all the preseason cliches about teams "rebuilding" or "reloading." Carson High cross country coach Pete Sinnott offers a different evaluation of the Senators as they return to defend their 4A state girls and boys team championships.
"I think we're in the discovery phase right now," said Sinnott, who is entering his fifth season as head coach of Carson's program. "I don't like all those cliches. It's more like an evolution because teams are changing all the time, and that's where we're at. We have a new group of kids coming in and at the same time we have a good core group coming back, so we're trying to discover exactly where we're at. Our No. 1 goal is to peak at the end of the season."
