Buoyed by an experienced cast of returnees coupled with some talented newcomers, the Carson High girls golf team has good cause to be optimistic coming into its 2010 season.

"I'm looking forward to the season and I know the girls are looking forward to playing the tournaments," Carson coach Terry Gingell said on Thursday during practice at Empire Ranch Golf Course. "We've got a solid team. Not only do we have some good seniors, we have a good nucleus of young players. They're just a very nice group of girls who all played over the summer, and I expect their hard work is going to pay off."

There's no looking back now for the Carson High girls soccer team.

Just one win away from securing a trip to the state tournament last year, the Senators saw their highly successful season end with back-to-back losses at the Northern 4A Regional Tournament. However, the disappointment of last November is all in the past. Now, coach Randy Roser and the Senators are full of optimism as they look toward to making another run to the postseason in 2010.

There is still work to be done, but all in all, the Carson High football program got off to a good start toward its new season on Saturday.

"I thought we had a good day," coach Blair Roman said, flashing a smile after watching the Senators host Truckee and Lassen during a preseason scrimmage.
