There may be a new look to the Carson High boys soccer team with a new coach and several new faces in the lineup, but one thing remains unchanged coming into the 2010 season.

Expectations are still high for a program that produced three straight Sierra League championships between 2006 and '08, regional tournament championships in 1994 and 2004, plus state titles in 1994 and '98. Then again, Eric Masters knew all about the Senators' tradition when he became head coach in February.

Former Carson High soccer standout Brandon Briggs took a step forward in his bid to become starting goalkeeper at Boston University with a solid performance for the Terriers during a scrimmage at Northeastern in Brookline, Mass., on Saturday.

A new-look Carson High boys soccer team will be unveiled on Saturday during an inter-squad scrimmage.

The Senators, led by first-year head coach Eric Masters, will scrimmage between noon and 2 p.m. on the school's grass soccer field.

While there are coaches who like to see their teams tested in the preseason, Blair Roman went the extra mile when he set up the Carson High football team's 2010 schedule.

It all starts on Saturday when the Senators host Truckee and Lassen in a preseason scrimmage that features three programs that won championships last season. The scrimmage is scheduled to get under way with the freshman and J.V. teams taking the field at 9 a.m., followed by the varsity scrimmage at 10. Admission will be free and a snack bar open.
